Meet Councilmember Marquez

A resident for more than 30 years, David Marquez was elected to the Moreno Valley City Council in 2016 to represent Council District 3.

Council Member Marquez has long been an active volunteer with the City of Moreno Valley, participating in and coordinating neighborhood clean-ups since 2004. For his work on the City clean-ups, he was honored as the recipient of Riverside County’s “2016 Volunteer Award from Moreno Valley.”

As a member of the City Council, Council Member Marquez believes that accessibility is key to effective leadership. He is regularly “out” in the community to be sure he hears the concerns of his constituents and enjoys the work he does as a volunteer with several non-profit organizations such as the Salvation Army and Community Now, and veterans organizations including the VFW and the American Legion.

Currently, Council Member Marquez serves on the Library and Traffic Safety Commissions, the Public Safety and Finance Subcommittees, and on the boards of the Riverside County Habitat Conservation Agency (RCHCA) and Riverside Transit Agency (RTA).  He also serves as an alternate on the Senior Citizen’s Board and the Utilities Commission. Council Member Marquez also serves on the League of California Cities Public Safety Policy Committee.

Council Member Marquez served the Country in the US Air Force for 7½ years having toured in Southeast Asia and Guam, and stationed at Chanute Air Base in Illinois, McClellan Air Base in California, Lackland Air Base in Texas and Davis Monthan AFB, Arizona.

His varied career also includes time as a skilled diesel mechanic, and police officer. He graduated from Rio Hondo College in Whittier with a degree in Police Science (Administration of Justice).

Council Member Marquez was lucky enough to marry his high school sweetheart, Velma Rae Calistro in 1970. They moved to Moreno Valley in 1983, where they raised their four children. Council Member Marquez and Velma are also the proud grandparents of eleven grandchildren.

Proudly, all of Council Member Marquez’ children and grandchildren attended or are attending schools in the Moreno Valley Unified School District.
