Housing Element

The Housing Element is a state-mandated program that is designed to expand housing opportunities for all households.

The Housing Element for the 2009 – 2014 period identifies approximately 7,500 sites for future housing needs. To implement sound housing and community development planning, the City will need to zone or rezone certain areas to comply with the California Department of Housing and Community Development’s (HCD) mandate.

The goal of the state mandate is to create and sustain livable communities, to expand housing opportunities, and accommodate the housing needs of residents of all economic levels. Building an adequate supply of safe and affordable housing and developing a variety of housing types provides significant economic and social benefits to the entire community.Through a series of public meetings conducted in 2007 and 2008, input from our citizens assisted the planning commission and city council to plan effectively for housing .
