City of Moreno Valley wins Helen Putnam Award of Excellence

The California League of Cities awarded Moreno Valley a Helen Putnam Award of Excellence for its "One Stop Development Service Center" at City Hall. The Internal Administration Award was presented at the 2002 California League of Cities' conference in Long Beach.

"Anytime you are given an award by your peers, it means a lot. It also means you've got a magnificent staff that's innovative and customer focused," said Moreno Valley's Mayor, Charles White.

This is the second Helen Putnam Award for Moreno Valley. The City previously won the award during the mid 90s for its Anti Graffiti program. "For many years, staff have worked diligently to continuously improve and refine our ability to serve our residents, businesses and developers in the One-Stop Center. They are a top-notch team and their success in meeting our customers' needs is exceptional. The one-stop center that we operate is the real deal," said City Manager, Gene Rogers.

The award recognizes outstanding achievement and innovation by cities, resulting in lower costs or more effective delivery of services. The award is named in recognition of Helen Putnam, who provided great leadership to the City of Petaluma and the League. Putnam was also the League's first woman president. Each year, more than 475 cities submit applications for the Helen Putnam Award of Excellence. The awards have been given annually since 1982.
