The City of Moreno Valley has been chosen as the site for the 2004 Amateur Softball Association (ASA) Girls 14 & Under Class B Fast Pitch Western National Tournament. The announcement was made Tuesday, November 12,at the ASA's National Council Meeting in Reno, Nevada.
Competing against eleven other cities, Moreno Valley was selected based on its past performance in hosting the 2001 Girls 10 & Under National Championship, which resulted in the ASA presenting the city with the James Farrell Award of Excellence.
Moreno Valley has been working closely with the Southern California Chapter of ASA to bring major national tournaments to the community, and the partnership has resulted in the ASA awarding Moreno Valley the only national youth tournaments to be held in Southern California in more than 25 years. "We are very pleased and honored to have been selected again by the ASA to host one of their prestigious tournaments. It will be a great event for the business community as well as the sports community," said Moreno Valley Parks and Recreation Director George Price.
The tournament will be held August 2, 2004 through August 8, 2004. Planning for the event will get underway "in the very near future to ensure a quality event for all the girls who will be participating," said Moreno Valley Recreation Superintendent Karen Reams.
