Moreno Valley Animal Shelter plans Pet Adoption Fair
and "Lonely Hearts Club" event
The Lonely Hearts Club is organizing a community project to match Moreno Valley Senior citizens with animal companions from the Moreno Valley Animal Shelter. On June 28, 2003, an information and adoption fair will be held at the Moreno Valley Senior Community Center, 25075 Fir Street, at 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
"Studies show that with the right pet, many senior citizens can reduce feelings of loneliness and improve their overall health and sense of well-being," said Animal Control Administrator, Linda Wieczorek. "The companionship of a pet can make a big difference in the lives of some people and we hope though this event, that we can match pets that need homes with loving, caring seniors," she said.
Information will be available for pet owners regarding spay and neuter, vaccinations, microchip identification, obedience and behavior modification. Seniors can fill out an interest questionnaire and application designed to match them with the most appropriate pet. There will be companion pets available for adoption and several therapy pets for visitation. Dr. Karen Moorland, DMV, from the Animal Medical Center, will be available to answer questions. There will be free adoption kits and refreshments.
