Animal Shelter hosts charity arts and crafts auction
The Moreno Valley
Animal Shelter is hosting a Charity Arts and crafts Auction the week of
October 18th and ending on Saturday, October 23, 2004, 10:00 a.m. –
4:00 p.m. in the Moreno Valley Animal Shelter, located at 14041 Elsworth
Street.
The purpose of the auction is to raise funds to outfit an animal disaster
trailer that was provided to Moreno Valley Animal Services through a national
homeland security grant. The trailer is designed to provide temporary
housing, food and first aid to animals in the event of disasters such
as wildfires or earthquakes.
“Once the trailer is outfitted, we’ll be able to respond in
all of Riverside County and provide emergency relief to agencies in other
areas,” said Chief Animal Control Officer Betsy Ritchie of Moreno
Valley Animal Services. “When not in use for disasters, the trailer
will be used for offsite animal adoptions and vaccination clinics,”
she said.
Moreno Valley Animal Services supplied animal food and housing as well
as clothing to many fire victims who were temporarily housed at the Norton
Air Force Base in San Bernardino during last year’s Inland Empire
wildfires. Since that time, Moreno Valley Animal Control Officers have
attended training with the Riverside Emergency Animal Rescue System so
that they would be ready to provide relief to animals and their owners
during future emergencies.
Numerous notable items will be available at the auction including works
of art by local artisans. Some of the items include woodcarvings, oil
paintings, dog beds and other animal accoutrements.
Anyone interested in donating arts and craft items for the action may
contact Moreno Valley Animal Services at 413.3790.
