Parks and Recreation Director to Retire December 9

After 15 years of serving as Moreno Valley 's first and only Director of Parks and Recreation, George Price has announced that he is retiring.  His last day on the job is December 9, 2005.

"While I originally intended to retire in July 06, several factors led me to select an earlier retirement date.  Now that construction of the Conference and Recreation Center is finished and the facility is up and running, I am satisfied that I am leaving the department in a good place.  I want to spend more time with my wife and family. Furthermore, with the impending change in city management, this will expedite the process of selecting my permanent replacement so the new City Manager can more quickly put his permanent management team in place.  Of course, there's a golf game out there waiting for me too," Price said.

In addition to the Conference and Recreation Center , Price has overseen the construction and development of eighteen new parks, a senior center, community center, roller-hockey skate-park and equestrian center.

Price earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from California State University at Long Beach and has also attended the A. Gary Anderson Graduate School of Management, Executive Management Program at the University of California Riverside .

Price plans to live and remain active in the community after he retires.    A recent recipient of the Moreno Valley Chamber of Commerce "Citizen of the Year" award, Price is active in numerous organizations, including, the Morning Optimist Club of Moreno Valley, the Moreno Valley Community Hospital Health Foundation Board of Directors, the Moreno Valley Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Moreno Valley Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the Moreno Valley Ranch Men's Club Board of Directors, the Moreno Valley Sister City Task Force, March Community Credit Union Supervisory Committee and numerous Parks and Recreation related professional organizations.
