New utility manager appointed

The City of Moreno Valley has hired George Hanson to serve as Utilities Manager. Hanson will be responsible for day-to-day management and operations of the City’s electrical utility, including the development of policies and procedures and oversight of customer relations issues.

Hanson has served as Assistant General Manager of Utility Service Operations for the Corona Department of Water & Power since 2001. Prior to his work for Corona, Hanson was employed by Southern California Edison for ten years, where he served as an Account Manager, Field Engineer and Design Engineer.

“George brings the right combination of utilities management expertise, engineering experience and leadership to this position,” said Public Works Director and City Engineer, Chris Vogt. We’re looking forward to the contributions he’ll make in Moreno Valley. We’re very pleased to have him joining our team,” he said.

Hanson has a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of California, Irvine and a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from California State University, Long Beach. He is a Registered Professional Civil Engineer in California and a member of numerous professional associations, including the American Public Power Association and the California Municipal Utility Association.

Hanson begins his duties with the City of Moreno Valley on January 8, 2007.
