Between now and 2014, the City of Moreno Valley needs to identify approximately 7,500 sites for future housing needs,” said Redevelopment Division Manager, Mitch Slagerman. “In order to implement sound housing and community development planning, the City will need to zone or rezone certain areas so we comply with the California Department of Housing and Community Development’s mandate,” he said.
The goal of the mandate is to create and sustain livable communities, in an effort to expand housing opportunities and accommodate the housing needs of residents of all economic levels. Building an adequate supply of safe and affordable housing, and the development of a variety of housing types, provides significant economic and social benefits to the entire community. The public input will allow the Planning Commission and the City Council to plan effectively for housing to keep pace with future population and job growth.
