City plans Veterans Day Ceremony

The City of Moreno Valley’s Veterans Day ceremony is on Sunday, November 11, 2007, at 2 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial, located on Memorial Circle at the Moreno Valley Civic Center.

When the City’s Veterans Memorial was dedicated on Flag Day, June 14, 2007, the names of four Moreno Valley soldiers killed in action (KIA) had been engraved in the granite walls of the Memorial. On Sunday, ceremony attendees will see two additional names: Sgt. Clayton G. Dunn, II, US Army, and Sgt. Rhys Klasno, US Army National Guard. The ceremony will include remarks from Mayor Charles R. White, Mayor Pro Tem William H. Batey, II, and Council Member Richard A. Stewart. In honor of all who have served, the Mayor will lay a wreath at the Memorial.

Only the names of Moreno Valley soldiers killed in action are engraved on the Memorial. As names are submitted to the Moreno Valley Veterans Memorial Steering Committee for consideration, the circumstances of the soldier’s service and sacrifice are reviewed. After the verification process is completed, approved names are added to the monument and the name additions are acknowledged in a ceremony held each Veterans Day and Memorial Day.

Pavers that surround the monument may be purchased to honor anyone currently serving or who has previously served in the military. For more information about submitting KIA names for consideration or to purchase a paver, please contact Moreno Valley Parks and Community Services at 951.413.3701.
