City Holds Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event

Residents of the City of Moreno Valley are invited to safely dispose of their household hazardous waste (HHW), electronics, tires, sharps and other items on February 1 and 2, 2008, at the Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Event.  Residents can drop off their hazardous waste from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the City of Moreno Valley’s Corporate Yard, located at 15670 Perris Blvd., Moreno Valley.  Waste will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

This event is for household-generated waste only; business waste will not be accepted.

Many ordinary household products are legally defined as hazardous.  These substances can be dangerous to humans, animals and the environment.  This is an opportunity to rid your home of household hazardous materials that cannot be reused, recycled or properly disposed of with your everyday trash.

Types of materials that will be accepted: cleaning supplies, lighter fluid, paint (latex/oil based), paint thinner, pool chemicals, anti-freeze, aerosol cans, fire extinguishers, propane tanks, pesticides, insecticides, herbicides, electronics, cell phones, microwaves, fluorescent light bulbs, sharps (needles/syringes), automotive and household batteries, tires (passenger car and light truck only – residents can only transport 9 tires per trip), used motor oil and oil filters.

State of California regulations allow residents to haul up to 5 gallons or 50 lbs. of household hazardous waste per trip.  Multiple trips are allowed.

By offering alternatives for the safe disposal of HHW, the City of Moreno Valley and Riverside County are taking a proactive role in protecting the environment and preventing these items from ending up in landfills, parks or roads, contaminating our open spaces, the air and water sources.
This event is brought to you by a partnership between the City of Moreno Valley, the County of Riverside and the California Integrated Waste Management Board. For more information contact the City of Moreno Valley Public Works Department at 951.413.3109 or e-mail MoValRecycles@moval.org.
