City plans Memorial Day ceremony

The City of Moreno Valley will conduct a Memorial Day ceremony Friday, May 30, 2008, at 10 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial, located on Memorial Circle at the Moreno Valley Civic Center.

The ceremony will include remarks from Mayor William H. Batey II, Mayor Pro Tem Frank West, Council Member Bonnie Flickinger, Council Member Richard A. Stewart and Council Member Charles R. White. In honor of all who have served, the Mayor, Knights of Columbus members and the Frank Chelbana Assembly will lay a wreath at the Memorial. Mary Carriere will give a tribute to her son, Lance Corporal Jason Tetrault, whose name is one of six fallen soldiers engraved on the granite memorial.

Only the names of Moreno Valley soldiers killed in action are engraved on the Memorial. As names are submitted to the Moreno Valley Veterans Memorial Steering Committee for consideration, the circumstances of the soldier’s service and sacrifice are reviewed. After the verification process is completed, approved names are added to the monument and the name additions are acknowledged in a ceremony held each Veterans Day and Memorial Day. There are no names to be added for this ceremony. Pavers that surround the monument may be purchased to honor anyone currently serving or who has previously served in the military. For more information about submitting KIA names for consideration or to purchase a paver, please contact Moreno Valley Parks and Community Services at 951.413.3701.
