Moreno Valley Library Director accepts new post in
After serving ten years as Moreno Valley’s first Library Director, Cynthia Pirtle has accepted the position of Library Services Director for the City of Newport Beach.
In 1998, Pirtle transitioned Moreno Valley’s former branch library of the Riverside County Library System into the Moreno Valley Public Library, where she helped establish the City’s library services department, and increased library programming and services during a time of rapid population growth. More recently, Pirtle has been working on the plans for the City’s new Main Library facility to be located at the Civic Center.
“During her tenure in Moreno Valley, Cynthia has made important contributions to the City and library services, and she will be missed,” said City Manager Robert G. Gutierrez. “We are very happy for her and wish her all the best in her new position,” he said.
“It has been a privilege to help shape library services in Moreno Valley. I’ve enjoyed being an active member of this community and have made many friends here. I will certainly miss them and my talented, dedicated staff,” Pirtle said.
Pirtle has nearly 25 years of public library experience. Prior to her work in Moreno Valley, she held positions in a number of library systems in Texas, Ohio and Oklahoma. She holds a Master of Library Science degree from Texas Woman’s University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education from North Texas University. Pirtle’s last day with the City of Moreno Valley is June 13, 2008.
