Top book readers in Mayor’s reading program announced

Mayor William H. Batey II has announced the top two readers from his Annual After School Reading Program. They are Katelyn Green of Red Maple Elementary School with 684 points and Meagan Williams of Avalon Elementary School with 375 points. The top three schools are: Red Maple with 11,931 points, March Middle School with 1,026 points and Armada Elementary School (“A Child’s Place”) with 686 points.

Forty-six school sites throughout Val Verde and Moreno Valley Unified School District participated and students produced approximately 10,000 book reports. The top two readers, Katelyn Green and Meagan Williams, received a $150 savings bond from Visterra Credit Union. These students, along with the top 20 readers, will be recognized for their efforts at the May 27th, 2008, City Council meeting.

The top three reading sites, Red Maple Elementary (S.T.A.R.S.) with 11, 931 points, Armada Elementary (“A Child’s Place”) with 686 points and March Middle School (S.T.A.R.S.) with 1,026 points, were rewarded on Wednesday, May 22, 2008 with a free trip to Harkin’s Theatre to see Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.
