Assistant to the City Manager accepts new post with Southern California Association of Governments

After 11 years with the City of Moreno Valley, Assistant to the City Manager, Angela Rushen, has accepted the position of Manager of Media and Public Affairs with the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG). Rushen will be responsible for SCAG's media relations, public relations, and communications programs. SCAG is the largest regional planning organization in the nation and sets policy for transportation, air quality, housing, water quality, solid waste disposal planning and other issues in the six-county SCAG region (Imperial, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura counties).

During the last 11 years Rushen has been responsible for a variety of assignments in the City Manager’s Office and the City’s Media & Communications Division, which handles media relations, public relations, special event coordination, graphics services, content management of the City’s Web site, and video production for the City’s government access cable television channel, MVTV-3. Under her leadership, the Media and Communications Division has won more than 30 awards of excellence in communications.

“During her tenure in Moreno Valley, Angela has made important contributions to the City, especially in the area of media and communications, and she will be missed,” said City Manager Robert G. Gutierrez. “We are very happy for Angela and wish her all the best in her new position,” he said.

"It has been my privilege to work for the City of Moreno Valley and I am proud of what the Media and Communications Division has accomplished over the years," Rushen said. "While I look forward to the new opportunities and challenges of my new position with SCAG, I know that I will miss my City co-workers and friends."

Rushen has a Masters degree in Communications, with a specialization in Journalism, from Stanford University and a Bachelors degree in Communications from UC San Diego. Her last day with the City of Moreno Valley is October 16.
