Arena soccer open play startsMoreno Valley’s Parks and Community Services Department has announced plans to begin offering an open play arena soccer program. Arena soccer is played just like regular soccer, using the smaller dimensions and “off-the-boards” action of the hockey rink at Valley Skate Park. The program begins May 20th and will run every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. for youth 17 and under, and from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. for adults 18 and older. Activities will be conducted on a drop-in basis, and games will be played under the “pick-up” format. “We’re very excited to begin offering this program,” said Senior Program Leader Kevin Callister. “Soccer is a huge part of this community, and we’ve got a really unique spin on it. The arena game is faster-paced and allows players to really showcase their skills,” he said. Admission is $1 for youth and $2 for adults. No advance registration is necessary. Staff will be on hand to conduct games and supervise activities. Spectators are welcome, free of charge. Valley Skate Park is located at the corner of 5th and “N” streets on March Field Park.
