The Spelling Bee Preliminaries began on March 3, 2008 at all 41 S.T.A.R.S. after-school program sites and ended April 29th. The Spelling Bee Preliminaries and Finals are divided into three categories: grades K-2, grades 3-5, and grades 6-8.

Preliminary winners receive a ribbon and certificate at their school site. Two winners from each site will compete in the Spelling Bee Finals May 17, 2008, at the Conference and Recreation Center, located at 14075 Frederick Street.

The Finals begin at 9:00 a.m. with grades K-2, followed by grades 3-5 at 11:30 a.m. and grades 6-8 at 2:30 p.m.

The Spelling Bee Finals is free and open to the public. Finals winners from each grade category will receive a plaque and a savings bond provided by the sponsor, Visterra Credit Union.
