City extends Animal Shelter Hours on Saturdays and Reduces Microchip Fees

In an ongoing effort to reunite lost pets with their owners and provide residents additional access to the Animal Shelter to adopt a new family pet, the City of Moreno Valley is extending the Saturday hours at the Moreno Valley Animal Shelter for a period of six months. Beginning March 7, Animal Shelter will be open to the public from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. every Saturday. The Shelter currently closes at 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays, but the City is hoping the additional hours will result in an increase in adoptions. The extended hours on Saturday will continue through the month of August 2009.

In addition to increasing the hours so that the Shelter will be open for adoptions Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., beginning March 1 the facility is also reducing the cost of microchips to just $10 on every animal adopted from the Shelter or returned to its owner. This is a reduction from the standard $16 microchip fee.

“Extending our hours of operation on Saturday will allow residents in the community a greater opportunity to be reunited with their lost pet and provide additional time for residents to adopt an animal in need,” said Steve Fries, Moreno Valley’s Animal Services Division Manager. “Our goal is to continue to be successful in placing animals with loving and caring families, making adoptions more affordable, and providing owners an affordable option of permanent identification for their pets,” he said.
