Event Scheduled to Celebrate new Peace Garden in Moreno Valley

On April 23, 2009, the City of Moreno Valley will hold a ceremony celebrating the donation of ten Cherry Trees to the City for the purpose of establishing a Peace Garden. The new trees will be planted at the Moreno Valley Conference and Recreation Center located at 14075 Frederick Street. The brief ceremony will commence at 10:00 a.m. and is scheduled to include remarks by Mayor Pro Tem Bonnie Flickinger and Councilmember Robin Hastings. Children participating in the City’s Time for Tots Program will perform by singing “The Garden Song.”

The flowering Cherry Trees are a generous donation provided to the City by SGI-USA, the American branch of the Soka Gokkai International network promoting peace, culture, and education. Funds permitting, SGI-USA has indicated they will continue to make an annual donation of additional flowering Cherry Trees to increase the size of the Peace Garden. The April 23rd event will also include a ceremonial tree planting by Michael McCarty, Parks and Community Services Director, and Ian McIlraith of SGI-USA.
