City Honors Resident with Chelbana Community Service Award

Moreno Valley resident Nancy Hatzidakis was awarded the Frank Chelbana Memorial Community Service Award at last night’s meeting of the Moreno Valley City Council. Ms. Hatzidakis was honored for her “exceptional, selfless community service.” Her numerous efforts on behalf of the Moreno Valley community have included volunteering her time and assistance at Moreno Valley Community Hospital, Inland AIDS Project, the United Way and Alzheimer’s Association. She continues to volunteer at Inland AIDS Project by visiting local high schools and domestic violence shelters to teach AIDS awareness and HIV prevention.

Ms. Hatzidakis has also demonstrated an unwavering dedication to the Riverside County Chapter of the American Red Cross. She volunteers to teach lifesaving CPR and first aid training as a volunteer trainer, instructor trainer, and instructor trainer educator for the Red Cross’ Disaster Service Human Resource Center in the County, state, and throughout the country. She has become a valuable member of the Red Cross’ Disaster Action Team (DAT) and has served as a team member, Captain, and Area Duty Officer for the DAT. In this role she assists victims recovering from disasters.

Ms. Hatzidakis was presented with a plaque from the City and her name will be added to the Chelbana Award plaque permanently on display in the Council Chamber foyer at City Hall.

The City established the Frank Chelbana Memorial Community Service Award in 1993 to honor exceptional community service by Moreno Valley residents. This award is presented in honor of Anthony Francis “Frank” Chelbana, former Mayor and Council Member, who represented and promoted the spirit of community involvement. Moreno Valley residents who have demonstrated exceptional, selfless community service that benefits the citizens and overall well being of Moreno Valley may be nominated for this award; forms are available on the City’s Web site under “Our Community.” For further information, contact the City Manager’s Office at 413.3053.
