Moreno Valley Plans 25th “Birthday” Celebration

The City of Moreno Valley will celebrate its 25th year of Cityhood on December 3, 2009. In 1984 the communities of Moreno, Edgemont, and Sunnymead were formally combined as the City of Moreno Valley. To commemorate 25 years since incorporation, the Mayor and City Council invite residents to join them at a cake reception at the Conference and Recreation Center on December 3 beginning at 5:30 p.m. This community celebration will conclude with the lighting of the “M” on Box Springs Mountain at 6:00 p.m. The “M” will be illuminated each evening from December 3 – 6 thanks to the support of Southern California Edison.

Residents who participated in the incorporation effort will be honored at the December 8 City Council meeting. The City is also sponsoring a children’s art contest to commemorate the 25th birthday. Children in grades Kindergarten through 8th are invited to participate by coloring a picture of a birthday cake. The picture is available at City Hall and the Moreno Valley Library, or may be printed from the City’s Web site at The deadline for returning entries to City Hall or the Library is November 13 and prizes will be awarded to one winner in each of four grade categories. Winners of the art contest will be recognized at the December 8 City Council meeting.
