Library Manager to Retire

After 11 years with the Moreno Valley Public Library, Library Services Division Manager Becky Guillan announced that she will retire from her position effective December 25, 2009. Hired as a Librarian in 1998 when the City assumed library operations from Riverside County, Guillan has moved up through the Library ranks to hold the positions of Senior Librarian, Principal Librarian, and Library Services Division Manager.

“Becky has been a stabilizing presence at the Library for the employees as well as the residents,” said City Manager Robert G. Gutierrez. “Her extensive experience and knowledge have been particularly critical as the community’s use of our library services has increased while budgets have decreased. Becky has worked closely with the design process for the new Main Library and with the Library Master Plan project and her mark will remain on Moreno Valley’s Library for years to come.”

Regarding her retirement from the City, Guillan said, “It has been a distinct pleasure to serve the City of Moreno Valley for the past 11 years. I was privileged to help develop library services as a new city department in 1998, and since then have been gratified to see the growth in collections and services offered to our citizens. I have been honored to work with the many volunteers, Library Commissioners, and Friends of the Library, who give so generously of their time and their means for the benefit of the entire community. As I begin this new chapter in my life, I am proud of the library staff, who give such dedicated service to our customers.”

Guillan has a Masters Degree in Library and Information Systems and a Bachelors Degree in History.
