Federal Funding Secured for Moreno Valley

The City of Moreno Valley received notice from the office of Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack (45th Congressional District) that Congress approved the Omnibus Appropriations Act that provides funding for a number of federal departments for 2010. The bill includes $500,000 in the Commerce-Justice-Science budget for gang prevention programs for the City.

These funds are in addition to $400,000 included in the approved Homeland Security budget which the City will receive to assist in equipping the new Emergency Operations Center currently under construction. “These funds will help bolster the City of Moreno Valley’s efforts to keep our streets – and children – safe from gang violence,” said Bono Mack. “By stepping up gang prevention efforts, we can keep kids from joining gangs in the first place and stem the tide of violence that is affecting communities across America. I am proud to support the City of Moreno Valley’s ongoing work to ensure safety and improve quality of life for local residents.”

Regarding the federal funding, Mayor Richard A. Stewart stated, “Once again the residents of Moreno Valley have Congresswoman Bono Mack to thank for advancing the cause of public safety for our community. Moreno Valley has had great success with our gang prevention programs and these funds will assist us in enhancing these efforts. We are so appreciative of Congresswoman Bono Mack’s continued support and want to thank Mary and her dedicated staff for all their efforts.”
