Traditional Memorial Day of May 30th will include Special Candlelight Ceremony

The City of Moreno Valley will conduct a special candlelight sunset Memorial Day ceremony on Sunday, May 30 at 7:30 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial, located on Memorial Circle at the Moreno Valley Civic Center. Please note that the City of Moreno Valley’s annual ceremony is held on May 30 - the traditional Memorial Day. The “observed” date on which most agencies commemorate Memorial Day is the last Monday of May.

The ceremony will include remarks from Mayor Bonnie Flickinger, Mayor Pro Tem Robin Hastings, and Council Members William H. Batey II, and Jesse L. Molina. In honor of all who have served, the Mayor and Knights of Columbus A. F. Chelbana Assembly will lay a wreath at the Memorial. The Riverside Sheriff’s Mounted Color Guard will present the colors at the ceremony.

The ceremony will also include the recognition of one Moreno Valley resident killed in action whose name is being added to the Veterans Memorial. Dedicated on Flag Day, June 14, 2007, the granite walls of the City’s Veterans Memorial include the engraved names of seven Moreno Valley soldiers killed in action. Pavers surrounding the monument include the names of both current and veteran military personnel. For additional information regarding the Memorial or to purchase a paver in honor of a member of the armed services, please contact the Moreno Valley Parks and Community Services Department at 951.413.3701.
