Photo of Norma LopezOn Thursday, July 15, 2010, officers from the Moreno Valley Police Department responded to a residence located at the 27000 block of Cottonwood Ave. in the City of Moreno Valley reference a possible kidnapping.

Upon the officers arrival they contacted a female who advised that her older sister, Norma Lopez, was missing. Officers immediately established a perimeter and conducted a comprehensive search. Norma was immediately entered into the statewide missing persons system and her description was broadcast to all surrounding agencies.

Norma Lopez is described as a Hispanic female, seventeen years old, approximately five feet, seven inches tall, weighing 110 pounds, brown eyes, with brown shoulder length hair. She was last seen wearing a black and white horizontal stripe, sleeveless shirt, with a floral pattern and black “skinny” jean trousers.

During the investigation officers learned that Norma had attended summer school today at Valley View High School and after school she planned to meet a friend and her younger sister at the Cottonwood residence at approximately 10:00 AM. but never arrived. Family members said it is common for Norma and other summer school students to walk south on Nason Street until they reach Dracaea Avenue and take a shortcut which leads south through a dirt field to reach Cottonwood Ave.

The Moreno Valley Detective Bureau has assumed the investigation and is following up on all investigative leads. At this point the investigation suggests that the victim was taken against her will and a newer model green, SUV-type vehicle was seen speeding from the area.

The Moreno Valley Police Department is asking anyone with information on the disappearance of Norma Lopez to please contact 877-242-4345 or the Riverside County Dispatch Center at 951-776-1099.
