Library Voted “Favorite Library” by Online Poll

Moreno Valley Public Library was voted “favorite library” in an online poll conducted by Latinos in Social Media (LATISM). Headquartered in Washington, D.C., these social media professionals conducted the national poll in conjunction with a virtual book drive to promote Latino literacy. The library was the recipient of over 300 new Spanish and English books donated to the drive by authors, publishers, and other sponsors.

LATISM was founded in 2009 to advance the social, civic and economic status of the Latino community, and supporting education is a large part of that mission. As their first social media-based Adopt a Library program, this was a way for them to “give the gift of reading” by making fiction, nonfiction, bilingual and children’s books available to the thousands of people who visit the library.

Some of the online comments made by those who voted for the Moreno Valley Public Library included: “they have bilingual story-time every Thursday” and “they give the children an opportunity…to read for enjoyment and educational purposes.”

The award of so many new books is a gift to the community that will get a great deal of use and is greatly appreciated by all the library staff, who thank LATISM for supporting reading and libraries in such a creative and generous way.
