ACCOUNTING ASSISTANT
(Financial & Administrative Services/Treasury Division)
THE SALARY: $2,942 - $4,143 per month.

AGENCY SHOP AGREEMENT: Non-exempt positions are covered by Agency Shop provisions. Service fees and membership dues are mandatory as covered in Agency Shop provisions.
THE POSITION: Under the general supervision of the Treasury Program Supervisor, this position will perform a variety of basic accounting duties including cashiering, basic financial and statistical calculations.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Use various software programs for cash collections, business licenses and false alarm fee activities; key data and compute basic mathematics; compile data on Excel spreadsheets; utilize word processing software; perform related duties as assigned; and provide quality customer service.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Training and Experience - Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent; and at least two years of progressively responsible experience in performing financial, statistical, record keeping or cashiering duties; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience in a public agency is especially desirable. Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) is desirable. Knowledge and Abilities – Must have knowledge of basic accounting principles and practices; modern office practices, procedures, and equipment; applicable laws, rules, and regulations; and computer systems. Must possess the ability to master automated accounting; perform special projects and related duties as assigned; understand and interpret the principles, laws, and procedures of financial record keeping; cashiering and business license functions; understand and follow verbal and written directions; pay attention to detail; key data; perform basic mathematical and statistical calculations; establish and maintain effective working relationships; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; maintain calmness and patience when dealing with people; and provide quality customer service.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES: A valid California Driver's License is required at the time of appointment.
SELECTION PROCESS: Following an administrative review of each application, only the most qualified applicants will be invited to an oral interview and/or testing. The successful candidate will be required to pass a medical examination, and to submit original documentation to establish both work authorization and identity (per the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986). Criminal background investigations will be conducted, and, in accordance with our Drug Free Workplace Policy, a Drug Screening Test will be required.
