Moreno Valley Creates "WiFi Gardens" to Provide Free Internet Access at City Facilities

For immediate release: June 17, 2020

Expanding public access to the internet is the goal of the Moreno Valley City Council's decision to provide free WiFi at City facilities.

These free WiFi areas, called WiFi Gardens, will convert existing WiFi at City Hall, the Main and Mall Library branches, Employment Resource Center and other City facilities to free public access. The new "ILoveMoVal" network will debut June 22 and will be expanded to provide free internet access at Cottonwood Golf Center, the Senior Center, and the Community Garden area at the Conference & Recreation Center (CRC).

Users will be able to freely log on to the new network without a password, and signage will identify the new WiFi Gardens.

"Internet access is an essential service today for residents of all ages," explained Dr. Yxstian Gutierrez, Mayor of Moreno Valley. "And keeping connected right now is especially important with so many residents looking for work and students learning from a distance."

The City's WiFi expansion is made possible by Covid-19-specific Community Development Block Grant funding.
