Substandard Housing

The State Housing Laws and the Uniform Housing Code define substandard housing as any condition which exists to an extent that it endangers the life, limb, property, safety or welfare of the occupants or general public.

Some examples of substandard housing are:

• inadequate sanitation
• lack of water
• lack of heating
• inappropriate ventilation
• the presence of insects or vermin
• structural hazards
• faulty weather protection
• fire hazards

Issues that are an imminent threat to public health, safety or welfare should be reported immediately to the Code and Neighborhood Services Division at 951.413.3340.
