It’s time to set sail on a fun and educational activity for kids. The Riverside County Department of Waste Resources is holding a Float-A-Boat workshop that lets children create model sailboats out of recycled materials and float them in an interactive display pond.

The workshop is designed for children ages 6 to 9, and each child must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to help supervise the activities, which include cutting and hot gluing.

Common household items like egg cartons, soda cans, food packages and more will be transformed into watercrafts fit for the high seas… or at least a swimming pool. Children will learn about the benefits of waste reduction, recycling and re-use and will leave the workshop with the model boat they created.

All construction materials and tools will be provided by the Department of Waste Resources.
While no materials are necessary, registration is required for participation and space is limited.
