Moreno Valley Wins Communication Contest Award
for Outstanding Municipal Public Information

The City of Moreno Valley has won a Grand Award in the 17th City Hall Public Information Awards Competition, Media & Communications Administrator Angela Ehigiator said today.

The contest honors municipal governments for excellence in communicating with their employees and the public.

Moreno Valley was honored for the Recreation Guide & City NewsLine in the publications category. The Recreation Guide & City NewsLine was cited for its "good use of providing city news/updates with parks and recreation program information" and for providing a "well-written and organized publication of news and special activities," the judges said.

Ehigiator said the award was welcome recognition of city hall’s efforts to improve the quality and effectiveness of its publications. "Our team, which includes Recreation Guide editor Lisa Putnam and Senior Graphics Technician/Production Coordinator Linda Thomas, works very hard to put together a quality publication for Moreno Valley residents. We’re very pleased to receive this recognition," Ehigiator said.

Moreno Valley’s award was announced by Raymond L. Bancroft, director of City Hall Communications of Franklin, North Carolina, sponsor of the competition since 1977.

Cities of all sizes submitted 270 entries in the 1998 contest which included categories for publications, community relations projects, and video productions. Each category has two population classes: above and below 50,000.

Contest judges were municipal management, public information, community relations, and video production professionals from across the nation, most of whom had previously won awards for their cities in the popular competition. The goal of the contest is to recognize and encourage improvement of various modern communications techniques used by city governments to inform their employees and residents about municipal developments.
