News Release

Flex Alert Issued

For immediate release: June 11,2019

A Statewide Flex Alert has been issued by the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) for the hours of 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Tuesday, June 11 due to high temperatures and high energy demand. The CAISO issues a Flex Alert to urge consumers to conserve electricity, especially during the afternoon when air conditioners typically are at peak use. Flex Alerts are part of an educational and emergency alert program that informs consumers about how and when to conserve electricity.

When a Flex Alert is Called, What Can I Do?
A Flex Alert is an urgent call to Californians to immediately conserve electricity and to shift demand to off-peak hours (after 10 p.m.).

You can conserve energy in the following ways:

  • Turn off unneeded lights and appliances
  • Use major appliances before 4 p.m. or after 10 p.m.
  • Adjust air conditioner to 78 degrees or higher; turn off when leaving home
  • Pull drapes and turn on fans
  • Set pool pumps for overnight cycle

What Causes Electrical Power Reserves To Be Low?
Reasons for low reserves may include:

  • High peak demand
  • Unplanned generation outages
  • Transmission line overloads, losses, or limitations that can sometimes occur as a result of fires
  • Adverse, humid, hot weather and heat storms

Please monitor the California ISO website at www.caiso.com for updated information, or contact Moreno Valley Utility at 951.413.3500 or 1-844-341-6469.
