News Release

Moreno Valley Utility SCAM ALERT: Con Artists Call Claiming to be from MVU or SCE

For immediate release: October 10, 2019

The City of Moreno Valley has been made aware that residents of Moreno Valley and other areas of southern California are being targeted by con artists who are impersonating Moreno Valley Utility (MVU) and Southern California Edison (SCE) staff in an attempt to fraudulently collect payments on supposed late electricity bills.

The fraudulent caller then requests personal banking information to make a payment.

MVU does not call customers to demand payment for a late bill or ask for any personal or banking information.

If you receive such a call, please hang up and notify either Moreno Valley Utility at 844-341-6469, or SCE at 800-655-4555, whichever the caller claimed to represent.
