New Rules Offer Incentives to Both Employers and Hired Veterans

The Moreno Valley City Council has approved changes to the City's Hire a MoVal Veteran program, adding a new $500 bonus for MoVal military veterans hired locally and increasing the incentive for the hiring employer, as well.

Hire a MoVal Vet, part of the City's larger Hire MoVal initiative, was created to encourage Moreno Valley-based businesses to hire veterans and was modeled after the City’s popular Hire a MoVal Grad program, which offers a $1,000 incentive to local employers who hire recent graduates. s

Under the new rules, Hire a MoVal Vet awards $1,500 (up from $1,000) to local businesses for hiring each veteran, with an increased cap of 10 veteran hires per year. The program now also requires the employer to share $500 of that incentive with the hired veteran.

With these new changes, Moreno Valley businesses can now receive up to $15,000 per year: up to $10,000 to stay with the employer and up to $5,000 forwarded to hired veterans.

“The City Council and I are thrilled to expand the Hire a MoVal Vet monetary incentives to include both employers and veterans," said Dr. Yxstian Gutierrez, Mayor of Moreno Valley. "We are a military-friendly City, and we encourage all MoVal employers to consider Hire a MoVal Vet incentives and the many other benefits of hiring military veterans."

To be eligible, businesses must have an active business license, be located in the City of Moreno Valley and retain the new employee for at least 480 hours.

To participate, veterans must live in Moreno Valley, have served a minimum of 90 days and show proof of honorable discharge from active duty as reflected in DD-214 discharge papers
