City's Popular MoVal Meals Program Now Accepting GoFundMe Contributions

For immediate release: March 31 2020

MoVal Meals, the City of Moreno Valley's new supplemental food service for seniors (60+) and persons with disabilities, has only been in operation for less than a week, but it's already operating at capacity, providing meal assistance for 500 participants. And in response to the residents who've offered to help support the program monetarily, the City has created a GoFundMe account.

"MoVal Meals has had a tremendously positive response, both from residents who need the service and from those wanting to contribute to the effort," said Dr. Yxstian Gutierrez, Mayor of Moreno Valley. "I see this kind of generous response from our community any time there's a demonstrated need. When there's a way to help, people are ready to pitch in."

Contributions in support of MoVal Meals on GoFundMe are made to the Moreno Valley Community Foundation.

The free MoVal Meals service, which provides both pick-up and delivery options, offers a week's supply of mostly staples, such as beans, rice, or pasta and more (one care package per household). Offerings will change slightly from week to week.

Supplies are available for drive-thru pickup at the City's Conference & Recreation Center (CRC) at Alessandro Blvd. and Frederick St. Monday - Friday from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. the day after participants register upon City confirmation. Beginning April 13, pickup time will be from 10 a.m. - noon. Deliveries to registered participants are made on Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. each week.

MoVal Meals will continue at least through April and possibly longer, depending on government orders regarding the pandemic response.
